Firetail Bird Tours
Welcome to Firetail Birdwatching Tours Victoria , the Victorian birding specialists. Your guide, Simon Starr, invites you to explore the fantastic diversity of birds and habitats found in Victoria. Currently based near Pyramid Hill some 225kms north of Melbourne we are well positioned to access many of the best birding areas in Victoria covering a wide range of habitats. Our tours are based on genuine local knowledge of the birds and the broader environment and cover much of northern and central Victoria ( the mallee country, the northern plains and wetlands of the Murray Valley, and the box-ironbark country ), plus we offer tours to the higher rainfall forests east of Melbourne, home of the Superb Lyrebird and other wet forest specialities. Much of Victoria's avifauna can be found between these areas of the state. Recent bushfires to the north and east of Melbourne have destroyed a lot of natural habitat including some prime birding sites. The fire threat has now passed ( March'09 ) and nearly all areas are open to access again. There is plenty of quality bushland remaining close to Melbourne, despite the losses from the devastating fires. We cater for casual or beginner birdwatchers keen to explore new horizons, through to the serious birder who wants to find the rarest species. Every tour is custom designed to best fit current seasonal conditions and your own personal interests and preferences. Each tour will aim to make the best use of available daylight hours depending on the season. Our aim is to give you the best experience possible. Our tours are conducted in a relaxed and informal way. Come and enjoy some great birding with a friendly host who knows his birds. Contact Us At:
